running bug

With only 18 days until the San Diego Rock n' Roll marathon I just found out I won a lottery spot to run the St. George marathon in October! I am super excited to be running two marathons this year. I figure I won't be able to run all the time (the whole expanding our family deal) so I've gotta get my fun in while I can. Jeremy asked if I wanted to do it and I convinced Chelsea to sign up too so we can continue to be running buddies.

Marathon training has been awesome! I have been feeling great and staying injury free. Chelsea and I are perfectly matched and have been able to drop about a minute off our mile pace through our training. Im not saying there have not been any rough patches. About six weeks ago we both went through some burnout and took an entire week off training and that helped a lot. We completed two 20 mile training runs and are now on the downhill taper portion of training, which I am so thankful for. I am so ready for the big pay off (the race) after all this training.

no fear dude

Callen is ALL boy. He has no fear and absolutely no reservations. He will run away not even caring if I am with him. I literally have to keep my eye on him at all times otherwise he disappears. He will go up to random strangers and touch them and talk to them. He loves trying new things. He is so tough when he gets hurt, it barely phases him.
Last week we hit the beach for the first "real" time this year. I was nervous about how Callen would do but he blew my mind. He wanted to run straight into the waves.
Saying hello to the engaged couple, Kelsey and Evan.
He did very well playing with his new sand toys.
Then he just wanted to sit and let the waves crash over him.

And this is what it looks like seconds before you face plant in the sand.
I love my boy baby. He keeps me on my toes, running. I can't even imagine what it would be like to have a girl.

mothers day

I had a fantastic mothers day! This was my second mothers day but first full year of being a mother. I felt like I deserved it more this time :) Last mothers day Callen was just five days old and this mothers day I have survived one full year of childcare. Best year of my life.
Tristan helped me around the house and cooked me dinner. I demanded Elbe Skivers. I just love breakfast.
After dinner we met up with the Tuckers and hiked the Torrey Pines Reserve.
Tristan brought the camera to take a few pics right after church. Lets compare last year to this year...
Last year: so calm, so peaceful, so perfect.
He let me give him kisses...
And this year. A lot more fun, cute, and playful. But quite the rascal.
 Denied my kisses.
Happy Mothers day!

babies at the zoo

The coolest thing about the Zoo is that it is a completely different experience every time. There is always something different to do, new things to see. Today we went with Melissa and Avery and brought the Grandmas. We were able to get very up close and personal with the gorillas, hippos, and vultures. They animals seemed extra friendly.

callen's first birthday

Callen is one year old today! My little 7 pound 14 ounce baby is one (plus or minus 20 pounds now)! It has been an awesome day celebrating with Callen. All day I have been thinking back and remembering the day we first touched, first held hands, first kissed. To me, it seems like yesterday. We have come a long way and have done a lot of things in the last year but I can easily say it has been the best year of my life. I never knew how much I would love being a mother and have surprised myself how easily it has come (so far). Birthdays are a huge deal to me and I wanted to make Callen's very first birthday a memorable one. It is a celebration of that person and their life and that is exactly what we did today, celebrated Callen and his happy spirit. Tristan is out of town for work but Grandma Tucker and I took Callen to the Carlsbad Outlet mall to ride the mall rides. Something we have never done before but I thought it would be something fun to do on his day. We rode the train in circles and then the car and helicopter.
While at the mall we were stopped by two Asian women who spoke no English but signaled their desire to take a picture with Callen. Then the older lady attempted to feed Callen nasty looking fish she pulled out of her purse. Um, no thank you!
After the rides we went to lunch and ordered callen his own kids meal. Mac and cheese, fruit, and chocolate milk (had to go with chocolate over regular, its the kids birthday). Callen loves the mac and cheese. Then we road the elevator, which Callen also loves.
Last stop before nap time was Costco. He recognizes Costco and is always so happy when we're in there.
After nap time we sang happy birthday and shared some cupcakes. It was a perfect day to celebrate Callen's first year of life.

the very hungry caterpillar first birthday

Callen's first birthday party was "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" themed. It was adorable, thanks to Pinterest and Etsy. His party was on a Saturday afternoon, four days before his actual birthday, at the cutest little park down the road from our house . It had tables, park benches, grass, and a playground. Callen had his own special birthday shirt, thanks to Etsy.

Christin, the incredibly talented, made Callen's birthday smash cake. How adorably perfect is that cake!!?? Oh my goodness, my heart stopped.
I had all the foods the caterpillar ate during the week and some of the Saturday foods. Each food item had a coordinating sign.
I decorated using paper lanterns, a chicken wire frame with my printed Instagram pictures, paper banners, paper fans, and balloons.
The Hungry Caterpillar made an appearance at the party.
 "Callen is One" paper banner.
Callen's friends and family:
A big huge thank you to my bestie, Kristi, for taking over 300 pictures of the party!
Next was the cake smash. Callen wasn't as agressive as I had hoped but he still picked off little pieces and ate them.
The cake smash audience...
Dad thought he didn't get messy enough...
After Callen got all clean up he opened presents, and he was pretty good at it too.
And your birthday just wouldn't be complete without some birthday kisses. Thanks ladies!
I had a bottle of bubbles and a balloon for everyone to take home, Callens absolute favorites.
Thank you to all who came to support our little man. It was a perfect day!
Happy FIRST birthday Callen!
