its halloween

Happy Halloween from the Perdue's!
We had an awesome, low key, holiday. I dressed up at work today. Jess and I were Thing 1 and Thing 2 with a twist. Instead, we were "Hey Um 1" and "Hey Um 2". It seems we, the athletic trainers, don't have names. When the doctors need something it's always, "Hey um can you teach some exercises?" "Hey um can you had me that?" "Hey um can you be my personal slave?" Of course!, is my trained response. They quickly caught on were were making fun of them but they loved it.

 Me aka Hey Um 1

 with Dr. McLane...Fred Flintstone
The next door neighbor boy knocked on our door and we were ill prepared with absolutely no candy in the house...oops. Tristan felt so bad so he rushed out to the grocery store for candy. Our bowl is ready, by the door, for more adorable trick-or-treaters.
No costumed knockers yet...guess we are stuck with tons of candy.
Tris ready with the candy.
Halloween night we took it easy and cheered on our San Diego Chargers.
Can't wait till next Halloween!

halloween half

Yesterday, Kelsey and I ran the Halloween half-marathon and it. was. AWESOME! Freezing cold but so worth it. The morning started at 5:45, then paused as I pushed the snooze button once and finally started again when I got out of bed 10 minutes later. 6:20 Kelsey picked me up to meet up with Ryan, Becca and Jen to catch the bus at 6:30. The five of us stood in line, waiting, freezing in 30 degree weather, for over an hour. The bus came and took us up the canyon to the race start at Aspen Grove. We did the pre-race ritual: wait in a huge line for the honey bucket, eat a snack, admire the silly costumes, shed the warm clothing and wait for the gun. The race gun went off at 9:00 and it was gorgeous in the canyon. The sun had just come up warming up the crisp fall air. We were so far back in the pack it took us 10 minutes to cross the start line. I was wishing the entire time I had a camera with me so I could capture all the Halloween costumes. Pinatas, vampires, nude Adam, a shower, people were quite creative. The 5 of us ran together basically the entire way and time flew as we laughed at costumes. Kelsey and I dressed up as pumpkins and Ryan, Becca and Jen were the potato head family. I cheered, "Gooo potato heads!!" every 10 minutes. It was quite an easy race, downhill the entire way. Kelsey and I finished in 2:00:32. Despite not beating my previous time I am very proud of what we accomplished under the circumstances: freezing weather, 2 bathroom breaks, and other unmentionables.
pumpkins!

family! They were there to cheer us on.

24 hours later D.O.M.S. (delayed onset muscle soreness) has set in and all that eccentric loading has taken its toll. I have decided the half marathon is my favorite length to race. Long enough to get good training in yet not psycho marathon long.
I'll be making a trip back to Utah next year to run this race again.
Happy Halloween!

midnight sewing

Saturday morning Tristan had an intramural flag football game. His team rocks. They're ranked 3rd overall in division 1. Yea babe! And Tristan gets better and more aggressive every game. He can pull a flag like no other. The last play of the game he went up for a ball with 3 other people and came straight down on his head. I was a little worried and kept asking him questions and trying to assess him for a concussion. He kept pushing me away refusing care....seriously babe, let me do my job!
Proof of playing hard.
Come Saturday night his neck was beginning to become more sore. He asked me if I could make him a rice bag. I've made other cutesy rice bags bags before...
but decided to man it up a bit. So, literally at midnight, I pulled out my fabric, sewing machine and began. I laid out all my fabric (lots of girly options) and let Tris pick out what he wanted, grey it was. It only took a few minutes so I made one for myself as well. I added little ribbon tabs on each side for easier handling when hot out of the microwave.

Another successful midnight sewing project.

new bff's

It was time to retire the mint colored Saucony's.

They were there for my feet through a marathon, a half marathon, a few 5K's, and lots of early morning training runs. I tend to bond with my running shoes. After all, we do spend a lot of time together. Meet my new besties, lime green Asics. I'm in love.
We have a half marathon coming up in 7 days. Excited!!

alpine loop

Checked off another item on my list of To-Do's before we move away from Utah. Kelsey and I drove the Alpine Loop. It was a gorgeous Sunday afternoon up in the Utah mountains as fall was in full force.

cougar homecoming

Last year Kelsey and I ran in the cougar homecoming 5K...
This year we ran in it again... but for free. We are training for a 1/2 marathon coming up in 3 weeks so our Saturday run consisted of a 9 mile loop that began and ended at Kelsey's south-of-campus apartment. The last 2 miles happened to run in course with the Cougar run so we went with it and enjoyed the cheers of the spectators. At mile 8 we stopped for some blue pancakes before finishing up our run. We stuck around to catch the homecoming parade...and to eat more blue pancakes.
Goooo band!
 Cosmo!!

It was a perfect Saturday morning spent with my sister.
Go BYU!!

shawn and christin

Happy news in the Perdue family! Shawn and Christin are ENGAGED! YAY! They have decided to say, "I Do" on November 11th. That's 11/11/11... easy for Shawn to remember in the future. :) This means Tristan and I will be making a trip home in just 6 weeks. We are very excited. And I am excited for another "in-law" to finally join the family. Check out their wedding website.

fall football

Tristan and I kicked off the fall season by attending the BYU v. UCF football game. After six years straight of buying an all-sport pass and attending every home football game we decided to forgo the pass this year and enjoy the games from home. I scored tickets from Dr. Rich that had us sitting on the second row. It was a whole new experience being able to enjoy the game sitting in actual chairs rather than standing on bleachers in the student section. We loved it. And BYU came out with a win.
Go COUGS!

wedding party

This weekend I had the privilege of being a bridesmaid in my friend Kelli's wedding. Kelli, or Smelli Kelli as I call her, and I met while working at the MTC where we became best friends immediately.
Thursday evening there was a rehearsal dinner at the Joseph Smith Memorial building.
The sealing was Friday morning at the Salt Lake Temple. It was the beautiful day in Utah and the sealer did the most amazing job.
Husband and wife coming out of the temple.
 Mother of the bride.
 My beautiful flowers.
The thee bridesmaids. Megan, me, and Tallie.
That evening there was a reception in Sandy.
Getting ready for the reception.
 Megan and I hanging out.
Weddings are so fun and exciting but by the end of the day my tarsals were killing me from being in heels all day. It is always fun to be apart of someones special day.
 Love you Kelli!

Happy Birthday Tristan!

We celebrated Tristan's 27th birthday on Wednesday, September 28th. I asked him if he would like me to bring him lunch to the school but he declined my offer so instead I toilet papered his car.

That evening we celebrated with Brady and Kelsey at the Texas Roadhouse. Always so delicious.
After dinner Tristan opened presents.
What an adorable birthday boy. Happy Birthday Tristan! I love you tons and tons.
